I Hope You're Wearing Boots...

Sat Aug 16, 2008, 6:04 PM
... because I'm about to step on some toes, haha.

I want to apologize.

Seriously.

I have valued how much my friends like me over their eternity. This should not be.

Jesus is the only way.

I would rather offend them for a moment, than watch them lose their soul for an eternity.

"But Turnish, what happened to just loving people?"

This IS love.

1 John 4:8: "He who does not love does not know God, for God is love."

We need to stop trying to fit God into our definition of love, and start loving for what love really is.

1 John 3:16: "This is how we have come to know love: He laid His life down for us. We should also lay down our lives for our brothers."

If I am the only Christian my friends ever meet, you bet I'm going to fight for them to know Jesus. How completely selfish it is, dear friends, to know where all men end up without Jesus, and not share that truth for fear of "offending" others?

If I knew that I would have to be dragged through unimaginable torture, or even lose my life, for even one of my friends to know the Father, let it be known that I would eagerly do it. I know I'm ready for eternity.

Not because of what I've done, but because of the grace of God, and the way He has made for me.

Romans 6:23: "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

God does not send people to Hell. Our sin, even one "small" sin, is enough to eternally separate us from God.

What is sin?

Sin is anything, ANYTHING, that goes against the character of God. Whether it's doing something wrong, or choosing to NOT do something that is right.

"I'm a Christian, but I don't believe everything in the Bible is right."

Proverbs 28:9: "If anyone turns a deaf ear to the law, even his prayers are detestable."

Illustration:

I'm an American, but let's say that I don't believe every law in our country is right.

Let's say I steal something. I wasn't some wicked evildoer; I thought that I deserved it!

I get caught.

Surely the judge won't put me in jail! I'm a good person. I had a good reason for what I did!

What kind of judge simply dismisses the case because I don't believe that the law is right?

Who is man to decide that God's word is not right?

so....what? according to the bible, as a transsexual with a girlfriend and a very loose belief in a god, who believes in reincarnation and magic, I'm screwed six ways to sunday. And this is just mostly just me being who I am on the inside. So....hellbound, am I?

Turnish, hon, I love you like crazy, but remember last april when Amber did a journal like this and I got way offended? I know that my opinion's not going to influence you in any way, nor really should it, but I'm sorry, you're starting to sound fanatical.

It is a very hard thing to think about. But I hope you will some day agree with Turnish and I about this.

First, I will tell you, that true friends stab you in the face with something called truth. Truth hurts. And true friends tell the truth. Who would want a friend that lies behind your back rather then tells the truth to your face? (Not to say I'm your friend, I'm a random person who agrees with Turnish who is apparently your friend.)

Though no one can force you to believe anything, we will at least try and get you to think about the unseen world. Just think about it.

First off I would like to say that Jesus Christ has, in fact, saved my life. I feel new, I feel different, and ALL of my questions and doubts about origins and life are flat out ANSWERED. Let me also tell you that I am cynical. I am skeptical. And I am HARD to convince. But when I finally set aside my hard heart and accepted the fact that science cannot answer every question, I found out something. I found out the meaning of love.

Love isn't a feeling, its a choice. And the only way to know true love is to know Christ.

Now I'm not sure if you're one of those athiest types that trusts science to answer life's daunting questions. But if you are, just know that if you place all your faith in science you will come to dead spots. Science can only explain things in this world. God is outside of the dimension that science can explain, therefore, we cannot understand Him unless we belong to Him.

Now I know you think I'm another one of those Christian freaks who is all lost in their religion and blind to the world. But let me tell you- most true Christians are not like that. Perhaps you have had the wrong idea of Christians from some sort of cult. Cults are stupid and annoying. But any true Christian, regardless of their denomination, all agree that Christ's death is what gives us life.

Trust me, when I was where you were, I thought I would never talk like this. I really honestly didn't believe that the Bible and God could answer all questions. It does.

If you have any questions whatsoever, shoot. I am not trying to 'convert' you. I'm trying to make you think. I don't want you to take it as a "OMIGOSH REPENT OR GO TO HELL!" threat. I want you to take it as a thinking process. Be skeptical with me. Shoot. Ask and I'll answer.

Man, you're amazing.

I was seriously sitting here for like seven years, trying to write out all that I wanted to say, but... you beat me to it! =]

I would rather see people in heaven with broken toes, because I stepped all over them, than see people in hell with perfect feet because I was too afraid of offending them.

I just want to add a little something to dear Aeolian's comment. =]

Christianity isn't some sort of religion, where you say the magic words and believe that something might have happened and you're a good person and you're healed. It's much more. In fact, it can be nothing more than a world view.

The only world view, I may add, that answers life's deepest, most fundamental questions:

1. Where did we come from?
2. What went wrong with the world?
3. How do we fix it?

"Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should."

I'll be praying for you, Turnish :)

you're very welcome  one of the guys that talks to our youth group sometimes challenged us to read it every day this week and when I read your journal, I immediately thought of that passage :)

...would you mind praying for me as the schoolyear begins in about a week...? I have a lot of trouble at school just because I'm one of the very few Christians there, out of a couple thousand people :(

Amen to that.

We get too caught up in trying to make the truth agreeable to everyone, to fit into everyone's sensibilities, and end up talking like that's spreading the word of G-d.
